H.E Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek joined the Tambach Community, Keiyo North Sub County in presiding over a clean energy initiative at Moi Tambach Primary School.
The school partnered with Equity Bank to implement a Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) project for the school’s dining hall.
Speaking at the school when he represented H.E Governor Wisley Rotich, Prof. Cheserek applauded the school for embracing clean energy saying it would greatly conserve the environment.
“You are number one in the County in academic performance and management now you are number one in going green, congratulations,” she said.
The Deputy Governor said thousands of acres of trees are felled yearly for wood fuel used in boarding schools.
“This has contributed much to the degradation of the environment. We want to urge other schools to reverse this trend and emulate Moi Tambach,” she said.
In this rainy season, Prof Cheserek called on those in attendance to play a part in environmental restoration and suggested that everyone plants trees equivalent to their age.
She also asked locals to support Governor Wisley Rotich initiative to plant 3.2million trees in Elgeyo Marakwet as part of the Presidential pledge to plant 15 billion trees in Kenya to combat climate change.
The Deputy Governor further said the County Government would come up with a policy to conserve the escarpment to encourage residents living along the escarpments to plant fruit trees and coffee.
Present at the function was Environment CEC Jason Lagat, County Commissioner John Korir and Equity Bank General Manager Mr. Stanley Nganga among other stakeholders.
