A team from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Headquarters today visited Elgeyo Marakwet County to discuss the implementation of a USD 5.5 million project aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and improving livelihoods in the region. The project, launched at Cheptebo, will be implemented in Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo County Government Counties.
During their visit, the team met with county officials under department of Water, Environment and Climate Change led by CECm Jason Lagat to discuss key components of the project which include Strengthening policy frameworks to support sustainable agriculture and food security.
Restoring degraded lands and promoting sustainable land management practices through Supporting entrepreneurship and job creation in agriculture and related sectors and Enhancing knowledge sharing and capacity building for farmers and stakeholders.
The team also conducted a field visit along the Spencer line towards Chepkorio and Kimwarer, where they witnessed firsthand the project’s potential to transform the region’s agriculture sector.
This project is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo Counties by improving food security, livelihoods, and overall well-being.
