Tourism County Executive Committee Member Robert Kangogo led residents and pupils of Kapchoge Primary school in Kapyego Ward for a tree planting exercise at the school.
Mr. Kangogo lauded the school through it’s environmental club for championing environmental conservation.
“I am encouraged that you have introduced your pupils into conservation at a young age. This is worth emulating,” he said.
He added that the project will boost Governor Wisley Rotich’s commitment to planting 60 million trees in the county.
The club’s patron, Mr. John Cheptoo said they aim to develop 10,000 tree seedlings yearly.
“Other than classwork, we also teach our pupils how to conserve our environment,” he said, “we aim to grow 50,000 trees in the next five years through our motto go green, breath clean”
Lawi Kosgei, an environmentalist and a local resident, lauded the school administration for championing tree growing.
Environmental consultant John Chesewew said next year, he will support the school with fruit trees seedlings, which, according to him, will assist the school in meeting some of its financial obligations at maturity.
Kapchogen headteacher Mr.Paul Biwott said the local community would benefit from the campaign.
