Beer manufacturer East African Breweries Limited EABL today visited sorghum and finger millet farmers engaged in contractual farming in Kerio Valley.
The agency officials toured Kapsimwet irrigation scheme in Arror where locals carry out the farming spearheaded by the County government’s department of Agriculture and Irrigation.
To ease harvesting process, the agency today presented two multi purpose thresher machines to the farmers.
A thresher is a farm equipment that separates grain seed from the stalks and husks. It does so by beating the plant to make the seeds fall out.
EABL Africa head of Supply Chain officer Arthur Mamvura said managing post-harvest losses can have a significant impact on food security and the livelihoods of farmers and therefore the machine will be the solution.
“We will employ village-based technicians to support the Ward Agricultural Officer,” said Mamvura.
The machine is capable of threshing various crops such as sorghum, maize, beans, and millet.
It will not only increase efficiency in harvesting but also contribute to reducing losses due to inadequate storage facilities and transportation challenges.
The multi-purpose machine has a capacity to thresher 20-30 bags per hour.
It will not only save time but also ensure a more effective harvesting process.
Present during the visit included CECs Edwin Seroney, (Agriculture) Edwin Kibor, (Education) and Purity Koima (Sports) amongst other officials.
