Elgeyo Marakwet County has completed the zero draft on Forest and Landscape Restoration Policy, marking a significant step towards environmental conservation. This policy aims to restore and manage the county’s landscapes, promoting sustainable development and environmental protection.
The policy will undergo public participation, allowing citizens and stakeholders to contribute their views and suggestions. This initiative is part of a strategic forest and landscape restoration effort aimed at rejuvenating degraded ecosystems in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Some of the areas expected to benefit from this policy include Chesongoch, Embobut, Chesegon, Kapsegut, Kona Mboga, Kapsogom, Anin, Kipkenda, and Kiptoit among other fragile ecosystems prone to landslides. The policy is expected to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development in landscaping restoration.
This initiative is aligned with Kenya’s broader environmental goals, which aims to restore degraded land ecosystem. The project is a partnership between county government and World Resources Institute (WRI).
