The Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP2) National project coordination team, together with the representation of the World Bank toured Elgeyo Marakwet County in a mission to asses the implementation progress of Kenya Informal Settlement improvement project (KISIP2).
Cheptongei and Chebiemit Informal settlements infrastructural works, installation floodlights, provision of street lights, and construction of vending markets have been initiated.
The two centres benefited from Sh350 funding aimed at improving living conditions in informal settlements.
Governor Wisely Rotich hosted the team, where he expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the support towards improving the informal settlements in Cheptongei and Chebiemit.
Governor Rotich added that the county is looking forward to more partnerships, noting that the economic impact from partners has been felt in the region.
According to Eng. Ngare Michael, the team , was in a mission to establish the status of the projects since inception.
“We want feel how this projects are impacting lives of communities,” said Michael, “We are convinced that the community have owned this projects, we’ve engaged with them and indeed we comment this gesture.” added Michael.
Area residents led by Patrick Kwambai lauded the installation of high mast lights in Cheptongei, saying that business currently runs late in the night.
“We used to close our shops as early as 6:30 pm, but this has changed how we are doing business as we now operate to beyond 10pm,” said Kwambai.
Present during the site visit County Project Coordination Team (CPCT), Settlement Executive and Grievance Redress Committees, the Contractor, and the supervising Consultant.
