The government has kicked off distribution of fruit and tree seedlings investment across the county courtesy of Financing Locally -led Climate Action FLLOCA program.
In Kamariny, more than 15,000 seedlings of avocado and 12,000 exotic tress (cypress) were distributed today and the exercise is in progress across all the Electoral Wards.
Beneficiaries drawn from Nine sub locations gathered at Kamagut Chief’s office, Iten Rural, Kapteren and Sergoit where they were given their share of seedlings.
To ensure that the exercise is successful and transparent, the locals right at the grassroots took part in identifying model farmers who are given a significant number of seedlings.
The model farmers were each supplied with seedlings for 1 acre and the implementing agency will take coordinates of the farms for purposes of monitoring.
The rest of the folks received less seedlings and were supposed to register their details with the County department for Environment, Water and Climate Change.
Mr Jason Lagat, the Environment CEC supervised the exercise where he spread Governor Wisely Rotich’s Wealth creation gospel.
The Governor in his maiden remarks praised FLLOCA saying it was a boost to his wealth creation strategy that rally the County residents to embrace agribusiness with a view to addressing poverty index.
In Kerio Valley, some of the beneficiaries will be given mango, coffee, tree tomato and pixie seedlings while others will benefit with water pans.
According to Moreen Ruto, an Environment officer, the farmers were this time round aggressive to plant the trees compared to the previous years.
FLLOCA, is a World Bank funded project being implemented by the National Treasury through the Program Implementation Unit (NTPIU) and the County Government through the County Climate Change Unit (CCCU).
