Transition from NHIF to SHIF

Effective 1st October 2024, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will be transitioned to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Consequently, every Kenyan citizen, including dependents will be expected to register as members of the new scheme .
The County government today conducted staff sensitization meeting at the Iten KMTC conference hall that brought together facility managers from Sub-county hospitals,Health centres and dispensaries from all the 128 facilities.
H.E. Governor Wisely Rotich addressed the meeting in which he also attended to concerns raised by the participants.
According to the County boss, health care in Elgeyo Marakwet has been one of his flagship programs and therefore his administration was keen to ensure the wellbeing of Wananchi was safeguarded.
The Governor said going forward, all the 128 facilities will be automated and supplied with reliable internet service.
“57 facilities have already been issued gadgets to start the automation process,” said the Governor.
The automation will ensure all medical supplies were tracked and patient records fully kept digitally in the Health Management and Information Systems HMIS that will be rolled out.
He called on the residents to register by dialing *147# or go to www.sha.go.ke and follow the short procedures.
Meanwhile, Rotich said there shall be a commencement of massive sensitization and registration process through community barazas, Churches and social gatherings that will be led by the department of health, County staff and opinion leaders.
