Elgeyo Marakwet County is poised to establish its first-ever university at Tambach after key institutions in the area unanimously agreed to coexist with the proposed institution.
The breakthrough came Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement at Tambach High School, led by County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Thomas Maiyo.
The meeting brought together the Iten/Tambach Municipality Manager, ACC Tambach, Chief Principal of Tambach High School, and representatives from the Ministry of Education, Moi Tambach Primary, KUPPET, KNUT, and Kenya Prisons. All parties agreed to support the university and adopt a framework for harmonious coexistence.
Hon. Maiyo termed the consensus a critical milestone for the county’s education and development agenda. “This university will transform Tambach into a regional education hub, expand opportunities for our youth, and stimulate economic growth,” he said.
The proposed university is expected to improve access to higher education, create jobs, and attract investment to Elgeyo Marakwet County.
