Sochem Cooperative Society Sees 19% Surge, Sets Sights on 25% Growth in 2026

Sochem Cooperative Society in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County, has reported a remarkable 19% growth in 2025, up from 15% in 2024. The society credits its success to strategic sales of tanks and jikos, aggressive recruitment of new members, and a broader loan issuance base.

‎With assets worth Ksh 316 million and over 3,700 members, Sochem Cooperative Society is poised for further expansion. Plans are underway to develop a business building at Chepkorio Centre.

‎Speaking at the annual general meeting, CECm Michael Kibiwot, representing Governor Wisley Rotich, pledged the county government’s continued support for cooperatives. “We’ve deployed 20 cooperative officers to help various groups and societies enhance good management,” he said.

‎The society projects a 25% growth in 2026, driven by innovation and member engagement.

‎In attendance included Chief Officer Emanuel Birir, Sarah Kiptoo- cooperative auditor ward administrator, ward cooperative Officer among other county staff.
