More than 300 farmers from Kapsowar Ward yesterday recieved Pyrethrum seeds.
The acreage under pyrethrum in the Ward is projected to hit 1000 once seeds worth Sh1 million that was allocated in the Annual Development Plan is supplied to farmers.
This is a major boost to the County’s wealth creation strategy which aims to ensure that every household in Elgeyo Marakwet is enrolled in atleast one income generating activity.
Amon Melly, from Kentegra urged the residents of Kapsowar to major into pyrethrum growing owing to the region’s conducive environment to the flowers. “Kapsowar is ideal for pyrethrum. The weather here is friendly. You will never regret it, ” Mr. Melly urged the farmers while distributing the seeds in Sangurur.
Philemon Biwott from the Governor’s Delivery Unit urged the farmers to heed Governor Wisley Rotich’s call of growing high value crops in order to arrest the current runaway poverty levels in the county.
Similar sentiments where echoed by Chief of Staff Nathan Tanui who urged the residents to venture into an economic activity of their choice. “We have poultry, dairy and even avocado farming. We have the opportunity at hand to transform our lives,” he said.
