Just days after the High Court Registry was launched in Iten, H.E Governor Wisley Rotich today witnessed the official launch of Court Annexed Mediation Centre at Iten Courts.
The Center launch was presided over by Hon. Justice Eric Ogola, Principal Judge,High Court.
The Centre is a pre-trial stage of a case, giving parties an opportunity to explore whether their dispute can be settled amicably before going to court.
It will not only address disputes between residents but will also act as a peace building process between the affected parties.
“I would also like to commend the Judiciary for posting a High Court Judge to Iten who will be sitting every every last week of the Month. This has been in waiting for long. It will ease time wastage and financial pressure our people face while travelling outside the County for cases at the High Court,” said the Governor.
The County Chief requested Chief Justice Hon. Martha Koome to consider opening three extra Magistrate Courts in Marakwet East, Keiyo South and Marakwet West Sub-counties so that Justice can be served to our people at their door steps.
“Currently, they are all attended at Iten Law Courts which is costly and logistically challenging for those who reside far,” added Rotich.
Also present during the function were Iten Land and Environment High Court Judge Lucy Waithaka and County Commissioner John Koriri among other senior County and National Government officials.
