A total of 983 skilled youth graduated from Kipsoen National Polytechnic in Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday after undergoing successful training to acquire skills.
They were conferred diplomas and certificates in various disciplines.
The ceremony was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Migos Ogamba and was also attended by Governor Wisley Rotich , Deputy Governor Prof Grace Cheserek and Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai.
Technical knowledge offers an opportunity for self-employment.
With available tools of trade, graduands can venture into self-employment, while others can be employed in the fast rising tech world and other technical areas like masonry, carpentry and joinery, tailoring, mechanical works among other areas owing to the current ongoing government programs like the construction of affordable housing and markets.
The courses are affordable and practical and training often takes short periods.
Governor Rotich said his administration had supported some of the students through bursary funds.
“As you transition into the next stage of your lives, I encourage you to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and lifelong learning,” Rotich advised the graduands.
He challenged them to utilise the available digital space like Facebook, WhatsApp and TikTok to market their expertise or their products.
