Jane Chebii, a small-scale coffee farmer from Kapchebar, Tambach Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County, received 250 coffee seedlings from the county government in March 2024, marking a significant milestone in her farming journey. With a projected yield of 500kgs of dried cherries, Chebii aims to expand her farming activities and secure her children’s education.
The community is abuzz with excitement, noting a shift in mindset towards farming. “The community are happy and they have changed their mindset,” Chebii says, reflecting the positive impact of her initiative.
The Elgeyo Marakwet County Government has been actively promoting coffee farming, distributing coffee seedlings to farmers in all coffee growing wards across the county.
The initiative aims to boost farmer incomes and strengthen the region’s role in the national coffee value chain.
