ITWASCO to be awarded practicing license

The Iten Tambach water and sewerage company (ITWASCO) will be awarded practicing license and be among recognized water service provider in kenya.

This is after a successful stakeholders’ consultation meeting by Water Service Provider (WSP) that brought on board Water Service Regulatory Board (WASREP), which made the company meet threshold to be awarded licence.

Speaking during consultation meeting today, Eng. Richard Cheruiyot representing CEO WASREB, said that ITWASCO will join the rest of water service providers in kenya in acquiring the license that will help the organization run its activities according to the law.

He added that despite ITWASCO being a small company, it has shown capability of running its activities in transparent way.

“We are impressed on the milestone met by the company despite serving only 4,100 customers and as an organization, we are delighted to commit ourself that we shall licence the company,” said Eng. Cheruiyot.

A statement that Chairperson WASREB Dr. Joshua Irungu reaffirmed and added that ITWASCO has been able to run its activities despite Covid 19 challenges.

He added that, WASREB has dispersed it’s first batch of incentive to cushion the company during this period of Covid-19.

“We have remitted kshs. 6million to the companies account which will help the company meet it’s financial obligations during this tight period of pandemic” Said Irungu.

The company is looking forward to partner with other donors to come up with sewarage system in Iten with its treatment plants being in Nyawa and Kaplamai.  So far, feasibility study has been done awaiting donor funding.

Mr. Paul Yator, manager ITWASCO said that besides working on sewerage system, the company is sourcing for funds to expand Sabor dam at a tune of kshs.1.4 billion, and rehabilitation of Yokot Dam at kshs. 400,000.

The works will include treatment works, desiltation and expansion of dam.

” We have done proposals and submitted to north rift water works development agency so that we can secure partners to facilitate the works.” said Yator.

The company has a swell automated it’s billing system, which saw the company collected revenue of kshs. 28million in financial year 2019-2020.

Yator added that despite achievements made, the company faces a financial crisis for example debts owed to government institution and individuals which amounts to kshs 25 million.
