Teachers Service Commissioners (TSC), led by their chairman Jamleck Muturi, paid a courtesy call to Governor Alex Tolgos.

The stakeholder engagement meeting was aimed at finding ways to improve standards and quality of education in the County by strengthening teacher performance system.

TSC is an independent Commission established under the Kenya constitution to manage human resource within the education sector.

The Commission is now working with different arms of the Government to engage on the challenges and solutions to optimize the potential value of the teacher in regards to improving the quality of the education.

The Chairman said this was a sure way of addressing challenges in the education sector.

“We are creating better ways of channelling the complaints to the commission without necessarily bashing teachers on the social media platform,“ he said.

During the consultations it was noted that education in Elgeyo Marakwet County had been affected by natural and human caused calamities within the region affecting the general educational performance of the area.

The Governor regretted the insecurity menace along the Kerio Valley that has made students move from one learning institution to another in search of a conducive environment for learning to take place.

He however said despite the insecurity challenges, the community has tried to give prime importance and priority to education-related matters.

“The community is fully aware that proper schooling helps in building a better community as a whole,” he said.

He also applauded the team on the delocalisation policy that was introduced by the TSC to make teachers work outside their home counties.

“My only appeal is that some areas should be treated with speciality especially those along the Valley and the Neighboring Baringo County because of its unique dynamics particularly in relation to insecurity issues,” added Tolgos.

The Governor also noted that more initiatives such as rehabilitation of the women brewers had been implemented as a way of curbing alcohol dependency amongst teachers.

In attendance was the County Secretary Paul Chemmuttut, Rift Valley TSC Regional Director Adow Mohamed, County Director of Education Masibo Kituyi, among other staff.
