Some 60 heifers were delivered to farmers in Kapsowar ward, Marakwet West Sub County.
While handing over the cows to beneficiaries, Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock CEC Edwin Seroney said the County aims at increasing milk production by almost 50 percent in order to meet its rising rising demand and address household earnings.
“There is high demand of milk in our County. We are also aiming meeting His Excellency Governor Wisley Rotich campaign pledge of addressing household earnings through Kilimo Biashara. In three years time, milk production in Kapsowar is expected to hit a maximum 1200 kilos daily,” said the CEC.
Jesca Korir, a beneficiary from Sisiya said the move by Governor Rotich’s administration to empower farmers through purchase of heifers was welcomed.
“I would like to commend Governor Rotich for his transformative agendas. I would also like to thank him for listening to us. I wish him well as he plans good things for our County,” she said.
Each farmer was also given pakchong super nappier grass cuttings, a donation by the Governor.
Present was Chief of Staff Nathan Tanui and a team from the Livestock Department.
