Global Affairs Canada and HarvestPlus Visit Elgeyo Marakwet

‎A delegation from Global Affairs Canada and HarvestPlus paid a courtesy call to the Governor’s office in Elgeyo Marakwet, marking a significant step in their ongoing efforts to promote nutrition and sustainable agriculture in the region.

‎Following the meeting, the visitors proceeded to Setek Upper care group, where they learned about the innovative use of biofortified foods, such as nyota beans and orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, in local diets.

‎The delegation also visited a lead farmer in Mindililwo, where they witnessed firsthand the implementation of the lead farmer concept in integrating biofortified crops with other crops to meet nutritional requirements.

‎The lead farmer model has proven to be an effective way to disseminate knowledge and skills to other farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and nutrition.

‎These nutrient-rich crops are playing a crucial role in addressing micronutrient deficiencies and promoting overall health in the community.

‎This visit highlights the commitment of Global Affairs Canada and HarvestPlus to improving the lives of communities in Elgeyo Marakwet through sustainable agriculture and nutrition initiatives.
