The Bible Society of Kenya today delivered Good News Bibles to be distributed to schools in Kerio Valley as part of efforts by the church to establish lasting peace in the region.
The Bible Society of Kenya donated the bibles to be used in the ‘Love Embraced’ programme run by Parklands Baptist Church, Nairobi in the area.
H.E Governor Wisley Rotich enlisted the help of the Church last year to help in trauma counselling for victims of banditry and cattle rustling in the valley, mostly women and children.
Since then, the church has set up base in the Valley on a missionary basis and also using evangelism to dissuade youths in the area from engaging in lawlessness.
Speaking when she handed over the Bibles at the County Headquarters, Bible Society of Kenya CEO, Elizabeth Muriuki, said the Society was impressed by the efforts being made to transform lives in the semi arid region.
“When we heard of the ‘Love Embraced’ program, we made a conscious decision to support it through provision of free Bibles to students in the area,” she said.
CECs Edwin Seroney and Purity Koima, who represented the Governor in flagging off the Bibles, welcomed the donation saying the bibles would greatly help in character transformation among youth in the area.
Keiyo North Deputy County Commissioner, Julius Maiyo, said laws in the bible were similar to laws that govern the country and hence the efforts by the church and the government were complimentary.
Present were Acting County Secretary Vincent Bartoo, Pastor Stanley Amadi from Parklands Baptist, Bishop Haroun Kwambai, Chair Elgeyo Marakwet Pastors Fellowship among others.
