Farmers urged to join cooperatives to boost income.

Farmers in Kerio Valley have been urged to join cooperatives in order to improve group savings and investments.
Speaking in Chesetan and Arror, Cooperatives CEC Robert Kangogo said cooperative societies provide an opportunity for farmers to negotiate for better prices of their produce.
“As a cooperative society, farmers are able to ask for better prices of their farm produce. This is the point to weed out brokers who often make a kill during harvesting season, ” he said.
Mr. Kangogo urged the farmers to ensure that they are all join a cooperative society.
Cooperative societies represented include Kapkamak/ Kabonon,Kamsiwet, Kapnyanjar
Kerio Valley, Mawel and Ngomtai .
Elsewhere, Co-operatives Chief Officer Elizabeth Korir led another team in the ongoing mobilization of residents to join cooperatives.
Ms. Korir called for the amalgamation of small cooperatives into a giant organisation inorder to increase its capital base. “We need one big cooperative society. This will help us in aggregation of farm inputs. It will also be in a position to lend funds to members at an affordable rate. The small cooperatives provide a platform for unnecessary competition,” she said.
Present were MCAs Justin Mutwol (Arror), Jeremiah Biwott (Endo), staff from cooperative department led by Director Philip Serronei,Vincent Rotich, Stanley Saina, and Ward adminstrators Sammy Cheserek, Dominic Kemboi among other county staff.
