Athletes from Elgeyo Marakwet yet again took top honours at the Eldoret City Marathon.
In the women category, EMC scooped position one and two as well as other 5 positions in top 20.
Mercy Kipchumba and Judy Korir completed the 1 and 2 podium finish making EMC shine again and asserting itself as the athletics powerhouse in the North Rift region.
There to witness this stellar performance and cheer our athletes was our Governor Alex Tolgos who reiterated the fact that Elgeyo Marakwet is indeed the leader in the tracks.
He congratulated all the winners and appreciated the Eldoret City Marathon for yet another successful event despite the Covid situation.
Tolgos asked Eldoret City Marathon organizers to always take stock of progress of all athletes who participate in the race.
“This Marathon is a stepping stone for many athletes who have ended up to participate in other international events,” he said.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago won the 5 KM fun race and called for adherence to the Marathon’s theme of action on climate change.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, on his part, called for speedy completion of stadiums in the region to further spur sports development.
