The County government of Elgeyo Marakwet in partnership with the City of Miramas in France has commenced training of 947 teacher coaches across the county.
The coaches will be comprised of at least one teacher drawn from every Primary school,Junior Secondary JSS and Senior School. Training will be running untill 14th October 2025.
Governor Wisely Rotich says the training will culminate to a County Athletics Championship for juinior and senior categories with a view to identifying those who will be placed in holiday training camps.
“We want to return Elgeyo Marakwet back to the Global stage on matters athletics through deliberate and intentional efforts,” the Governor said.
Elgeyo Marakwet was in 2019 feted with the prestigious World heritage plague by World Athletics.
He said the County partnership with the France’s City of Miramas has also brought on board the Teachers’ employer Teachers Service Commission TSC, Ministry of Education, Athletics Kenya AK, National Olympics Committee of Kenya NOCK.
