The Council of Governors-Kenya, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through European Union in Kenya funded Digital Land Governance Programme [DLGP], is conducting a 3-day County GIS Champions Training at the Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The training is part of a nationwide initiative to strengthen geospatial capacity in all 47 counties for evidence-based planning and service delivery.
The training brought together GIS Champions from key county departments including health, education, agriculture, environment, infrastructure, and disaster risk reduction. Participants were joined by the County GIS Officer, Directors of ICT, and Monitoring and Evaluation officers.
Facilitators from the Council of Governors, FAO, and private sector partners led hands-on sessions on data management, open-source GIS systems, and the use of the COG Open Data Portal. Participants also tested GIS dashboards and developed digital data collection forms for real-time departmental inputs.
Chief Officer lands Mr. Emmanuel Birir said, the exercise will strengthen the County GIS Laboratory as a hub for digital transformation and help institutionalise GIS across all sectors towards improved service delivery.
