Elgeyo Marakwet dominates regional Athletics Kenya meet

Elgeyo Marakwet county dominated Athletics Kenya North Rift regional championship as winning in four categories.

Dorothy Kimutai led a top 5 domination in the under -16 5 KM race. She was followed by Pamela Kosgey, while Sharon sitienei was third as Faith Kimutai and Zena Jebet were fourth and Fifth respectively.

In the boys’ 6KM category, Vincent Kimaiyo snatched first position from west pokot’s Charles Rotich.

The county of Champions also grabbed the first two position in 8KM junior men where Kelvin Biwot and Timothy Kibet were first and second.

Daisy Kimeli came third in a hard- fought 10KM senior women.

The Athletics Kenya sanctioned event which was held, saturday in Kishaunet grounds, West Pokot county came after county championships held on 16th January in Chepkorio.

Most of the athletes who managed top positions have been training at the county government sponsored Mokwo Girls Training Camp.

Top six finishers of the regional championship will compete for the national title and a place in Kenya’s Junior athletics national team.

The National Cross Country Championships will be held in Nairobi on 13th February 2021.
