The government distributed 45 galla goats in lower Tambach today earmarked for improving the livelihoods of local residents.
The initiative under the Emergency Locust Response Program (ELRP) is a Government of Kenya project funded by the World Bank focusing on preventing the spread of desert locust and responding to the threat to livelihoods posed by outbreaks as well as strengthening Kenya’s system for preparedness.
It focuses on providing a mix of investments that contribute towards reducing food and nutrition insecurity for households and communities affected by the impacts of the locust upsurge in the country.

Mr. Benjamin Kibor said the animals were being distributed to 5 groups previously identified for the support.
Galla goat is a strong breed of goat that is known for surviving droughts because of their resilience to opportunistic diseases that eliminate ordinary goats.
