The Commission for University Education (CUE) today conducted an official visit to Tambach Teachers Training College (TTC) to assess the institution’s facilities as part of the ongoing process of establishment of Kerio Valley University College.
The CUE delegation, led by Dr. Benson Murgor, Programme team Leader, carried out the inspection exercise aimed to ascertain the college’s readiness and compliance as per the Commission’s requirements.
The University of Eldoret, the mentor university, was represented by its Vice Chancellor Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot.
To achieve university status, the following process has to be followed:
Submission of a request from the County Government to the University of Eldoret.
Approval by the University of Eldoret Council.
Issuance of an acceptance letter to CUE by the University of Eldoret to serve as a mentor.
Approval by CUE for the University of Eldoret to mentor the proposed university college.
Formation of a technical committee by the mentor university.
Preparation and submission of a detailed proposal to CUE.
Inspection of the proposed university college by CUE.
Review and response to the technical report by CUE.
Issuance of an interim letter of authority.
Secondment of staff to the new university college.
Official launch of the university college and admission of the first cohort of students.
During the inspection, the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet was represented by Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek, who led the county delegation.
Also present were County Secretary Lazarus Chebii, County Director of Education John Kemei, CECM Lands Mr. Thomas Maiyo, Chief Officer Mr. Paul Rutto, and Director of Education Mr. Sammy Kipchumba.
