Leaders and residents of Chesegon at the border of Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties gathered in their numbers for prayers for peace to prevail in the area.
Catholic clergy from Nakuru, Lodwar and Eldoret dioceses led by Eldoret Bishop Dominic Kimengich presided over the prayers for sustenance of the prevailing peace in Kerio Valley.
Bishop Kimengich said the Church will actively play its part, walk the peace journey with locals to ensure the valley is a bastion of peace and development.
The prayer also brought together leaders and residents from neighbouring Baringo County.
Speaking at the event, Governor Wisley Rotich said he and his West Pokot counterpart, Governor Simon Kachapin had resolved to reopen Chesegon market, which flourished in the past before insecurity caused by banditry led to its closure.
“A committee from both communities will be established to oversee its opening and see our people re-integrate and do business once again,” he said.
