Career opportunities in Maritime

An assessment of the first group of 22 students from Elgeyo Marakwet County enrolled in hospitality training in preparation for the Maritime opportunities under Pepea program has been conducted today.

The training, is designed to prepare them for cruise ship jobs.

The first cohort has excelled, with some students even being hired as permanent employees by the hotels they were placed for their internships before completion.

Initially, they were only going for six months of experience working in these 5-star hotels, preparing them for positions on tourist cruise lines.

Governor Wisley Rotich appreciated the Norfolk hotel Nairobi and Diamond of Leisure Diani for recognizing the competence of the students and offering them full-time employment.

Other hotels include: Vipingo ridge Golf resort, Hemingways watamu, Silver Palm Spa and Resort, Kilifi among others.

The Governor said similar assessments will be done for other Pepea beneficiaries across different stations, and his office will provide feedback on their progress.

Pepea office remains open for interested candidates.
