The 2024 CAC African Road Cycling Championship ended today at Iten, headquarters of Elgeyo Marakwet County.
It was an exciting experience that brought in cyclists from different parts of the continent traversing Nandi, Uasin Gishu County and concluding at Iten, the Home of Champions.
H.E Governor Wisley Rotich led County residents in congratulating Henok Mulieberhan of Eritrea for winning the men elite race and Emile Van Niekerk of South Africa for emerging the winner in the U23 category.
“The event now opens a new chapter in cycling in our County. I encourage those who have passion in cycling to make into the competitive arena. It is no longer about fun!,” he said.
He added that Saturday’s performance from Kenya’s Monica Jelimo is a testimony that the country can produce world beaters in the cycling world.
Among dignitaries that graced today’s final was Sports Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Tum who represented Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
“I would also like to thank the organisers for choosing Elgeyo Marakwet as the finish line for the two day event. This has yet again opened up our county to the world,” said the Governor.
Governor Rotich also used today’s occasion to invite athletics enthusiasts to Iten next month for the Third Edition of Iten International Marathon, which he said will be an opportunity for local and international athletes to showcase their talents.
