A team from Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) paid a courtesy call on County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet through the Department of Agriculture, livestock and irrigation.
Department of Agriculture and Livestock led by CeCm Mr. Edwin Seronei and the team held discussions on AFC’s new strategic direction, and in particular the warehouse receipting product that the Corporation is looking at designing.
Mr. Christopher Kiburu, Head of Credit AFC said the Corporation’s initiatives to support the government agenda on agricultural transformation, financial inclusion, and access to finance for Micro and small trader in agriculture.
“AFC aims at supporting the Government’s agenda on food and nutritional security, access to finance and transformation of agriculture into a business-oriented sector,” Mr. Kiburu added.
CeCm Mr. Seronei expressed his commitment to supporting AFC in achieving the objectives of its mandate to provide financial support to agri-players, particularly small-holder farmers.
“The county is experiencing food shortage and we encouraged AFC to prioritize agricultural financing for production to ensure food and nutritional security for all Wanachi across the county,” Said Mr. Seronei.
The interaction is part of a countrywide stakeholder engagement exercise in support of the warehouse receipting product design.
They will be visiting the farmers on the ground to generate report whereby they will be targeting small stakeholders’ farmers.
The team further discussed areas of possible collaboration between the County and AFC noting that there are a number of opportunities to create jobs, enhance food security and promote agricultural mechanization through financing various value chains.
