The resettlement of people displaced by mudslides in Chesongoch, Endo Ward, is currently underway.

A team from the National Youth Service is putting up houses in Chesongoch, which, upon completion, will be handed over to beneficiaries.
Mama Lorna Kirop, a beneficiary, is among 53 homeowners expecting to reside in the new houses . She said the ongoing construction had lightened her hopes.
“I am living in a rented house after our home was brought down by the mudslides in Kasegei village,” she recounts the October 2025 horror landslide.
She thanked Kenyans for their humanitarian support, which, according to her, their gesture had restored their livelihoods.
“I thank all those who supported us. Despite losing our people and property, we have felt the support of Kenyans. Our leaders , led by our governor, Wisely Rotich , and Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, really stood with us. Thank you all,” she said.
The 31 houses are in different phases of construction.
Chief Officer Edwin Komen, who is part of the team spearheading the construction, said 17 houses are currently being constructed in the first phase.
“The construction of 17 houses is currently ongoing. Five are already at the roofing stage while seven are at the walling stage and another five are at the foundation stage,” he said.
He added that the next phase will include the construction of 20 houses, with the last 16 being done in the third phase before the NYS team leaves for Embobut and Sambirir Wards.
Thirty-one units will be constructed in Biretei , Chesongoch, while the remaining 22 will be put in Murkutwa Junction.
Dr. Albert Kochei, who is part of the committee, commended the National Youth Service (NYS) for what he termed as splendid work. “You are doing a good job. This is a splendid job,” he said to the officers who were working at the site.
Already, two families from Kibendo in Emsoo Ward who were affected by the landslides have been handed over their houses.

Present were committee members Laxmana Kiptoo and Lorna Kipsang.
