The landscape restoration policy is set to address the long-standing issue of fragmented implementation among departments in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The policy aims to bring together all stakeholders involved in ecosystem restoration to devise a unified approach and best methodology for implementation.

‎Currently, there is a lack of collective effort among departments in national and county governments, resulting in no standard procedures and unclear timeframes for execution. The policy seeks to change this by promoting a multi-stakeholder approach, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between national and county governments.

‎The goal is to create a cohesive system that functions efficiently, leading to tangible results in environmental conservation. This development comes as a welcome relief to environmentalists and locals who have been advocating for a more coordinated approach to address the county’s environmental challenges.

‎The landscape restoration policy is expected to play a crucial role in promoting sustainable land use practices, conserving biodiversity, and improving the livelihoods of communities in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The County government is working closely with World Resources Institute in developing this policy.
