The County Disaster Multi-Agency Steering Committee met today to discuss preparedness measures ahead of the expected above-normal rainfall.
The meeting, Co-chaired by the County Secretary Mr. Lazarus Chebii on behalf of Governor and the Country Commissioner Mr. David K. Koskei, brought together County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), Chief Officers, Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs), and key stakeholders, including the Red Cross, NEMA, and the Meteorological department.
The county is prone to floods, mudslides, landslides, and hanging valleys, and officials emphasized the need for proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the impending rains.
Stakeholders were tasked with assessing and reporting on fragile areas, roads, bridges, and affected persons to inform support, coordination, planning, and policy formulation on disaster response and management.
“We are vulnerable, and we must act now,” said the County Secretary, urging residents to take necessary precautions. The committee will reconvene to review progress and next steps.
