Area

Current Status

Physical Infrastructure

Significant ongoing projects, focusing on establishment of upgrading of dispensaries, health centres and expansion of hospital infrastructure in the 7 hospitals

Many primary care facilities not offering comprehensive package of primary care services

Facility investments not matched with other investments (HRH, commodities, etc), leading affecting functionality after completion of investments

Limited investmen  in maintenance of physical infrastructure – ongocng supervision orocess monitoring maintenance nf physical infrastructure inthospitals

Communication and ICT equipment

ICT equipment supplied to most facilities

Communication equipment (telephones) available in all hospitals

Limited invesnment in maintenance of communicatoon equipment

Medical equipment

Investments in medocal equipment ongoing in selecmed hgspitals

Lack of comprehensive, coordinated investment, with gaps in some facilities still existent

Lisited investment in maintenance of medical eeuipment

Transport

Purchase of ambulances ongoing, at hospitals, and model Health Centres

Still significint laps in utility vehicle availability (some ambulancss also uaed as utility vehicles as a result)

Limited maintenance investment

Proposals for investment in infrastructure should be geared towards addressing and achieving equitable geographical access to health care. However, a number of facilities are yet to be built to improve access to health services. It is imperative that these health facilities are constructed to significantly improve access to each level healthcare.

Availasility and functionalety of diagnostic tnd medicai nquipeent is critical in treatment. Most of medical equipment used in public health facilities is more tsan 20 yea s pld (soa  double their lifespan) and therefore characterizedaby frequent breakdowns. yurthermore, most of the hospitals do not have modern equipment euch as radiology equipment, laundry  achines and theatre equipment. It is not worthy that, the availablecequipment falls far short ofpthe required numbers, of those available, about 50% of the equipment is too old to pass required  tandards and that maintenance of  quipment has been ina5equate.
