Public Service Management, Administration, ICT and Communication CEC Monica Jeptum visited Software development skills training school at the County’s ICT center in Kapsowar.
Kapsowar ICT hub is a partnership between the County and local youth led by Hezron Kemboi.
The department is eager to capitalize on the ICT sector, train youths and eventually include it in the County’s digital economy development strategy.
This will see the production of a qualified pool of young trained and skilled personnel who will competently serve the County and Kenya in the near future.
“The initiative helps to empower youths to be self-reliant and address unemployment among the young people,” said the CEC.
She also said that the County would partner with Ajira Digital to train youths on online jobs and online marketing to further build the trainees skills base.
“Through this collaboration between the County Government and Hezron program we expect to see an increase of more youth in the school,” she added.
One of the trainees at the school, Titus Koech had this to say of the program; “Since we started the training, it has been of great help to us. We used to idle at the center, abusing drugs. But since the coming of the program, we are engaged and have something meaningful to do to build our future”.
More youths are encouraged to register in the program with the CEC saying plans were underway to roll out the program across all sub-counties in the County.
“Governor Wisely Rotich’s Government is particularly banking on youth to lead societal transformation through a number of economic programs since they have the numbers and have the energy. Let all youth heed the Governor’s call to work,” she said.
