The Elgeyo Marakwet County Department of Water, Environment, and Climate Change has today inspected the ongoing Chesongoch Borehole project—an initiative designed to address the persistent water scarcity in Kerio Valley, particularly following the recent landslides that severely affected the Chesongoch area. The project is implemented by North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Jason Lagat and Chief Officer Isaac Koech, accompanied by technical officers from the department, led the inspection and oversaw the progress of the borehole sinking exercise. They also visited other water projects around the area affected by the recent landslides.
This intervention comes in response to the destruction of key water infrastructure, including the Enou and Mulwaber water projects, which were damaged by landslides, leaving residents without a reliable water supply.
The Chesongoch Borehole is expected to provide a sustainable and dependable source of clean water to the affected communities, offering much-needed relief and supporting recovery efforts in the region.
According to CECM Lagat, the project underscores the County Government’s commitment to ensuring that all residents have access to safe and adequate water, even in the face of natural disasters.
The sinking of the Chesongoch Borehole marks a significant milestone in addressing the water challenges faced by the people of Chesongoch and surrounding areas
