USAID Feed the future Programme to promote potato growing in the County…

Potato farmers in the County are set to greatly benefit from Feed the Future Program (The US Government’s Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative) with the Initiative injecting about Ksh.200 Million for the project in monetary value.
This was revealed during a visit to the County Headquarters by Feed the Future team led by Dr.Romano Kiome, Chief of Party International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) who said Elgeyo Marakwet County has a huge potato growing potential in the country.
The USAID feed the future program will benefit 35,000 farmers (for potato and drought tolerant crops farmers) in the County and will go a long way in creating business opportunities for farmers, ensure food security in the County and improve nutrition.
Potato farmers in Elgeyo Marakwet County get about Ksh 5Billion in sales annually and with the USAID’s partnership the amount is set to increase.
